2012 NCTTA National Championships

Sunday April 15, 2012

After an uneventful Saturday, where all of our singles players were knocked out early for both the men and women singles tournament, in the toughest NCTTA singles field to date, both the co-ed/mens and womens teams looked to step up our play on Sunday’s team finals. After a stressful and competitive day, both Toronto teams return home having placed exactly where they were seeded entering the tournament. Final team results:

Womens: 2nd
Co-ed/Mens: 5th

Congrats to the women team for winning a third 2nd place finish, and the co-ed team for once again placing top 5 in North America.

Friday was a good a good day for UofT. Both the co-ed and women teams won all their respective round robin matches for the day, and all our singles players successfully advanced as expected (if not already seeded). Despite the smooth sailing, nothing trumped the highlight our women double’s pair.

TORONTO WINS WOMEN’s DOUBLES TOURNAMENT
Pair of Vivien Zhou and Pei Pei Zheng

Congrats to Vivien and Pei Pei for this outstanding achievement. Now officially the best intercollegiate women’s doubles pair in North America, the pair received this well deserved and hard fought win through grit, passion and determination, battling back from a 0-2 deficit to win the finals match 3-2 sets.

This is the University of Toronto’s first ever win at the NCTTA National Championship and is also a first for all of Canada.
